On Free, the speech model and the cleanup model run on your Mac, and your recordings and words stay on it. Pro adds Echotype Cloud: when you use it, your audio and text go to our server and our model provider to be processed. We don't store them. We keep only word and audio-time counts for your plan.
Dictation keeps working without internet once you've signed in and the models are downloaded.

Echotype goes online to download its models, check for updates and show notices. Anonymous usage counts are off unless you turn them on, and never include what you say. If you pick another cloud provider in Settings, it gets your audio or text under its own terms. Privacy Policy

Echotype uses about 1 GB of memory while you dictate, and about 2 GB with cleanup on this Mac. Detecting calls needs macOS 14.2 or later.
